DENNIS BEACHES: The Town of Dennis lies nestled in the heart of Cape Cod (the mid-Cape area in local terms) and stretches from Cape Cod Bay south to Vineyard Sound, a beach lover’s haven. On its northern shore, Dennis meets the bay in a seemingly endless ribbon of sand and sea. Low tide reveals sand bars and tidal flats, perfect for beach combing. On the south side, beach-goers will enjoy the warmer waters of Vineyard Sound, interchangeably referred to as Nantucket Sound. THE VILLAGES of DENNIS: Bordered by Brewster and Harwich to the east and Yarmouth on the west, Dennis lies mid-way between the Cape Cod Canal and Provincetown at the Cape’s outer tip.
First time visitors should plan to explore all five of the villages of Dennis, each with a distinct character all its own. Named an All American Town in 1978, Dennis retains a traditional New England feel and unspoiled Cape Cod atmosphere.
DENNIS & EAST DENNIS
On the north side, the villages of Dennis and East Dennis straddle historic, tree-lined Route 6A where many lovely sea captains’ homes are evidence of the town’s past as a shipbuilding center. Both villages are renowned for not only their sandy beaches but for the preservation of their quaint character and picturesque surroundings. Home buyers can choose from beach cottages tucked in the dunes to waterfront estates to lovely neighborhoods for vacation or year round living.
South Dennis
Don’t be confused by the name; South Dennis does not lie on the town’s south shore! South Dennis extends both north and south of the Mid-Cape Highway (Route 6), making it a convenient location only a short drive to both north and south side salt water beaches. Its certainly does not lack for water access, with neighborhoods abutting Swan Pond and Swan River, and edging the shoreline of Bass River from Follin’s Pond to Kelly’s Bay. The village also boasts its own historic district south of Route 6, a lovely area of antique homes, as well as a thriving commercial district on Route 134. There’s a little something for everyone in South Dennis.
